Dionne Warwick

Mister Smith will launch sales of ‘Don’t Make Me Over,’ which will also feature Bill Clinton, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach and Gladys Knight.

Could it be second time lucky for Dionne Warwick in Cannes?

A year after the iconic singer held a press conference at the festival to announce a new biopic — only for its biggest castmember, Lady Gaga, to hastily announce she wasn’t involved after all — another film about Warwick is heading to the Croisette.

Don’t Make Me Over, co-directed and co-produced by Dave Wooley and David Heilbroner, is set to offer a glimpse into the life of one the most famous, yet notoriously private, hitmakers of the last 60 years. The documentary, written by Wooley, will tell the dramatic story of Warwick’s meteoric rise from New Jersey gospel choirs to international crossover superstardom.

Currently in production, the doc is being shot by Oscar nominee Tom Bergmann (Life, Animated) and Oscar winner Ronan Killeen (O.J.: Made in America). It will be edited by Emmy winner Aljernon Tunsil (Through the Fire: The Legacy of Barack Obama).

Cannes Competition Lineup: The 19 Films Battling for the Palme d’Or

Among the high-profile list of names set to offer their thoughts on camera are Bill Clinton, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Clive Davis, Gladys Knight, Cissy Houston and Smokey Robinson, while songs featured will include the likes of “Walk on By,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “That’s What Friends Are for” and the film’s title song.

“While the world knows her many hits, Dionne has quietly guarded her astonishing, inspiring personal journey,” said Heilbroner. “We are both honored and thrilled to bring this great artist’s life and legacy to the screen.”

Added Wooley: “This has been a passion project of mine. I’m elated to see it become a reality.”

David Garrett’s Mister Smith Entertainment will unveil select footage from the film and launch sales to international buyers next month at the Cannes market.
